A cat show was held on Saturday, May 20 that delighted visitors.

This was the 30th Anniversary Championship Show held at the Te Awamutu ASB Events Center Stadium.

The show featured a total of 127 cats and showcased a variety of fine breeds.

Surprised and delighted owner and show manager Jan Gray’s Black Exotic cat, NZ Gold Double Grand Champion Magicbox Lord of the Dance, was in contention at Saturday’s show, taking the overall top prize and best longhair cat. The Lord, as Jan called him, was very handsome.

“He’s honey,” said Jan, surprised and overjoyed at his victory.

As show manager for the Mid Island Cat Club, Jan worked most of the day and didn’t get the results until it was too late.

She credits her small but hardworking committee of Dalton Munro (Secretary), Sue Ford, Neil and Lynn Plowes, Averl McBeth, Shelley and Vicki Boyd, who made her job easy despite being too busy to manage.

The club appreciates the support and sponsorship from Nestle PRO PLAN Cat Food, PD Pet Insurance and Bayer Advantage through local vet Katie Davidson at 3 Stone Vets.

Show manager Jan told the other winners, referring to Corucat Island Angel Spirit, a picture-perfect Toyger cat owned by Sandra and Simon Broomfield. Sandra and Simon were delighted to receive the Top Shorthair Award.

Other top winners included Best Companion Cat or Kitten Chokin, owned by Christine Tracy, and Isaac, Senior Domestic Cat, Auckland, owned by Alison Jackson. Alison of Kenzicats Photography took photos at the event.

Many of the event goers were delighted with the space and warmth the Waipa Community Facilities Trust event center provided for all on such a cool shower day.

“Despite the rain, it was a great turnout. It was a great place in the show grounds for people to walk around and see the cats. A lot of people enjoyed being there,” said Ian Gray.

I spoke to a lot of people who like to come see the cats on show – two people who pointed out why the gate price is so low – I told them we do that to encourage people to come.
